Sea Foam for cleaning RV generator carburetor [SOLVED]

We are having problems keeping our onboard generator running in our RV. Error code says the carburetor or filter could be a cause. Can we use Sea Foam to help this problem? The fuel (55 gallon tank) feeds the Ford motor as well as the generator.

Hi Leslie,

Sea Foam will help clean gum and varnish from the carburetor (which is often the cause of problems). What you’ll want to do is run a high concentration of Sea Foam through the generator using an external fuel source. Here are the steps from our how-to instruction sheet:

What you’ll need: a small amount of fresh gasoline in a portable fuel can, wrench with spark plug socket, screwdriver, a 3 to 4 foot section of matching fuel hose (standard is 1/4” diameter).

  1. Start and warm up the engine to operating temp (5 minutes), then shut off.
  2. Disconnect the fuel line before generator’s fuel pump.
  3. Connect the short section of matching fuel hose to the same location.
  4. Add 1 can of Sea Foam and 32 ounces of fresh gasoline to the small fuel can (1 to 2 ratio), then insert and submerse the end of the short hose section in the mixture.
  5. Start and run the engine on the high concentration mixture for 15 minutes. This allows Sea Foam to work through the carburetor circuits and chamber areas.
  6. Shut off the engine to let the Sea Foam concentration hot soak in the chambers for 5 minutes.
  1. After the 5 minute hot soak, start and run the engine for 5 more minutes. This is done to burn off the dissolved hydrocarbon residues (cleaning) and to lubricate the intake and chamber areas.
  2. Shut off engine, reconnect main fuel line.
