How soon do I change oil after adding Sea Foam to the crankcase? [SOLVED] Asked by Robert R. In Arizona If I add half a can of Sea Foam Motor Treatment to my engine oil, how soon do I need to change the oil?
Thanks for the question, Robert.
Sea Foam Motor Treatment is safe to leave in there for the life of the oil.
In oil, Sea Foam works to reliquefy residues and deposits. While you can add it at any time, we recommend around 100-300 miles before your next oil change so the Sea Foam has time to clean, and the reliquefied residues/deposits can be drained away with the old oil.
Hope that helps!
We have a 1998 Audi A8 Quattro with significant engine knock/rattle.
I have a can of Sea Foam SF16. Is this added to the fuel or added to the engine oil, or can it be added to either?
Hi Noel. There are common engine noises that occur in different areas of the engine. Knocking is chamber related – it has to do with carbon buildup in the chamber hemispheres. In that case you’d want to add Sea Foam to your fuel. MOST COMMON is lifter noise, which is a fast ticking sound that occurs in the oil crankcase. If lifter noise, add half a can of Sea Foam to the oil.
