Sea Foam Marine PRO will work great to clean injectors on a 40hp Mercury!
Here’s the best way to do it:
Add a full can of Marine PRO to a low tank of fuel (1/4 tank or so). Then, operate the engine for at least 20 minutes before adding more fuel (just don’t run out!). The high cleaning concentration is the fastest and most efficient way to clean injectors with Marine PRO.

How much MAX per qt of fuel. Non Ethanol of course? I’ve got an intermittent miss at idle. Merc 2014 40 ELPT FI 3 Cyl,
Typically, nothing special is required. A ratcheting wrench and a flat head will do in most cases. The main thing is not using any power tools because gas is present.
I’d try running a high concentration of Marine PRO through your outboard first, like Jim described in the initial reply to the question. That does a great job cleaning injectors.
If your outboard is still giving you fits, I might take it to a certified shop.
Hope that helps!

Hi Johnny,
The maximum ratio we’d recommend would be 2 parts gas to 1 part Marine PRO.
So for every quart of gas (32 oz), use 16 oz of Marine PRO.
Can I pull these out without a special tool?
