Good question, Peter.
You can put it in at any time, but we recommend adding Sea Foam 100-300 miles before you change your oil. Here’s why: Sea Foam reliquefies residues and deposits so they can be drained away when you change your oil. If your crankcase is dirty, you’ll notice the oil color get darker as the Sea Foam cleans things up and the residues/deposits return to circulation in liquid form. If you’ve just added fresh oil and it gets dirty (because the Sea Foam is doing what it does and cleaning the crankcase), you might have to change it earlier than scheduled.
However, if your crankcase is clean or your engine doesn’t have many miles on it, adding Sea Foam to fresh oil is just fine. It’ll help prevent the formation of residues and deposits. Just keep an eye on the oil color as usual, and change it if it gets dirty.
Hope that helps!
